Central and State governments have issued strict notifications to drug stores to abstain from selling face masks and sanitizers at hiked prices.
In this case, Messiah medical stores which operates with several branches in Ooty has been sealed after the public raised complaints to the district administration and drug store department accusing them of selling masks and sanitisers at hiked prices.
Based on the complaint, the drug control department officials inspected the drug store and confirmed that face masks were sold at inflated prices. Following this, under the order of Coimbatore Regional Drug Control Department Head, Drug Control Department Inspector Nandakumar, sealed the medical store.
The shop owner was ordered not to open the store for next 7 days. The officials have planned to conduct similar inspections throughout the Nilgiris district from tomorrow and exercise severe action on medical stores who sell products at hiked prices.
