Addressing the Press after meeting with the association members, the secretary of the association apprised that as Sunday is an important day for business, the market will incur a loss of Rs 3 crore due to the shut down.
He added that following Coronavirus threat, fumigation works have been intensified at the market. On a daily basis, disinfectants are being sprayed throughout the market area.
Commenting on consumption of fish during such pandemics, he said as far as this virus is concerned there is no connection of consumption of fish and the virus. "People need not panic to buy fish. While the demand for fishes are unusually high, the supply is very low", he noted.
He also reassured the people that chemical-laced fishes are not sold in Ukkadam market and the guidelines issued by yeh food and fisheries department has been adhered, at all times.
