Face masks available for sale at the Mahalir Thittam office, at District Collectorate

Coimbatore: District Collector K. Rajamani, informed the public, regarding the sale of face masks made by Women's Self Help groups. He visited the stalls that were set up at the Coimbatore District Collectorate, today (Mar 19). Mahalir Thittam K. Selvaraj and Womens' Self help group members took part in the sale.


Coimbatore: District Collector K. Rajamani, informed the public, regarding the sale of face masks made by Women's Self Help groups. He visited the stalls that were set up at the Coimbatore District Collectorate, today (Mar 19). Mahalir Thittam K. Selvaraj and Womens' Self help group members took part in the sale. 

The District Collector spoke regarding the sale and said, "COVID -19 is a disease that caused respiratory problems like cold, cough and breathing difficulty. The District administration is taking up a lot of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease, in association with the Health and Family welfare department."

"In order to mitigate the scarcity of masks, The Women Development Office has involved the Women's Self help groups, who have been trained well and are functioning in a commendable way in the urban and rural areas. Good quality masks manufactured by these groups are ready for sale, both in retail and in bulk", he informed. 

The masks are that are kept for sale are manufactured from non woven and cotton materials. Cotton masks are sold for around Rs.8 to Rs.10 and non woven masks are retailed for Rs.17. Additionally, the self help groups have also manufacured soap oil, hand wash liquids, phenol, bleaching powder and other sanitary products. More than 1000 women's self help group members are involved in creating awareness regarding the spread of Coronavirus. These groups are also being taught the process of manufacturing Hand sanitizers. When the training gets completed, more hand sanitizers will be available for use, he said.

"Public sector undertaking, private companies, NGO's and businesses that need face masks can approach the District Supply and Sales Association, Mahalir Thittam office (Old building, second floor), District Collectorate, Ph: 0422-2301855" informed the District Collector K. Rajamani.
