Chennai: DMK MLA N. Karthik today raised the issue of SIHS Colony pending over bridge work in the Assembly. The overbridge work has been pending for over 10 years now and has been a major concern for the people of this area.
He told the assembly that the bridge which was sanctioned during 2010 is still incomplete and causing a major inconvenience to the public.
In reply to MLA N Karthik, CM Edappadi Palanisamy said, that the project which was started during the tenure of DMK was planned poorly and was proposed in haste without properly securing the land needed for the project. He further added that the delay was caused as the landowners filed a case in court demanding higher compensation which led to the bridgework being stopped temporarily.
He added that with the court order received recently, the works will begin at the earliest. He also pointed out that the same was the case with the Porur bridge proposed by DMK which was not planned well and that led to delayed completion.
Minister SP Velusamy added that MLA Arun Kumar had formed a committee to resolve the issue and had taken efforts in making negotiations with the landowners and the district administration also took part in resolving the issue at the earliest.
The residents of the area had recently laid garlands to the still incomplete bridge to point to the authorities that it's become like a dead project.
