Coimbatore: Upon directives from Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, the FSSAI officials here have geared up precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
Dr. K. Tamilselvan, Designated District Food Safety Officer informed that a meeting was held on March 16, at the District Collectorate in which officials of various departments including food and safety took part. The Collector briefed on the various preventive measures to be taken in their respective departments.
"As an outcome of this, various hotels, restaurants and tea shops which comes under the purview of the Food Safety Department, will have to follow stringent measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In order to achieve this, all these places will have to be stocked with enough soap and hand sanitizers, for people to wash their hands", the designated food officer told.
He added that a notice board, educating on the importance of frequent hand washing, 5 to 6 times a day, and regarding the means that the virus spreads, symptoms and prevention methods, must be placed in front of the restaurants.
"All food must be 100% cooked and served hot. No employees with cough, cold or fever must be permitted to work in the restaurants. Proper records of cleaning charts must be maintained by the hotels and restaurants", he informed.
Further he issued the guidelines for star hotels and said, "All Star hotels and other hotels, with boarding facilities, must collect the details of the foreigners and out of State guests, staying at their hotels. A Whatsapp group has been created by the Food Safety Department, for this purpose. Daily cleaning records maintained by the hotels will be monitored", Dr. Kalaiselvan added.
