10 medical teams working on warfooting at Walayar and other check points - District Collector

Coimbatore: District Collector K Rajamani on Wednesday inspected the ongoing preventive measures against COVID-19 which is being carried out on warfooting at Walayar check post, on Kerala border, here. 







The officials from health department explained to the Collector on the preparedness and preventive measures executed at the Walayar checkpost. Assistant Director Rameshkumar, Food Safety Officer Tamilselvan, Tahsildar (Madukkarai) Palanisamy and other government officials briefed the Collector on the medical teams stationed to screen the passengers and motorists. 

"As per the order of the Chief Minister, Coronavirus disease prevention mechanisms are being undertaken on warfooting. Stringent measures and meticulous execution has helped Coimbatore to stay away from Coronavirus infection, so far. There are no cases in Coimbatore as of now. However, preventive measures are being undertaken as a precaution and awareness is being created among the general public", the Collector informed. 

Explaining on why preventive measures have been geared up at the checkpoints near Walayar, the Collector told that as the State of Kerala has positive cases, we have regulated the screening processing at the borders. 

"All omni buses, tourist buses, government buses, cars and goods vehicles are being sprayed with disinfectants. Preventive measures are being carried out at Valaiyar, Mulli, Melpaaviyoor, Velandhapalayam, Veerappakavundanpudur, Gopalapuram, Meenatchipuram, Vazhukkupaarai and Ananikatti checkposts", he informed. 

"At the Valaiyar checkpost, 10 medical teams have been stationed round-the-clock. All passengers are screened to ensure they are free of symptoms", he added.

The revenue department, corporation, district administration, police, transport and health department have been advised to work together in a coordinated manner to combat the spread of the novel virus, he added. 

"To monitor the disease prevention measures for Coronavirus and to inspect and undertake awareness activities, the Revenue Divisional Officer (North) is deputed at Anaikatti, Revenue Divisional Officer (South) has been deputed at Karumathampatti.The Pollachi Sub Collector will monitor villages in Pollachi at the foothills of Valparai and villages on the borders of Kerala", the Collector clarified. 

The Collector has advised that only those people with cold and cough have to wear masks, other don't have to wear masks. To avoid the price of masks from shooting up, help has been sought from Women's Self help groups through the Coimbatore District Womens' project. Government hospital, private hospitals and people requiring masks can contact the Women's Project office at the District Collectorate and get reasonably priced masks", he informed.

"Travelling to other places out of the district, or state, or for tours, unnecessary travel in general can be avoided, by the public. Washing hands frequently, is primary to keeping ourselves safe from the disease. All people should provide support for the efforts of the District administration for disease prevention", he requested.

"Severe action will be taken on rumor mongers who spread fake news about the spread of the disease. People are requested not to believe unverified information and rumours regarding the virus. People with symptoms like cough and cold should seek help from the government hospital", informed the District Collector.
