Coimbatore: A case of mistaken arrest, followed by enduring effort of the family and media, has paid off for this Coimbatore couple.
Ravichandran and Vaneeshwari, of Ondipudur, in the Sulur Police limits, bought a lorry (TN52 L 1866) on contract basis, to support their family, which was reduced to poverty. The couple also have a son Kishore (10). Earnings from the lorry, was the only source of income for the family.
In a case of mistaken identity, Ravichandran was arrested by the Andhra Police and taken for inspection on Feb 11, in a rice smuggling case. After undergoing a lot of torture at the Police station, he was imprisoned on Feb 16.
Amidst a lot of mental stress, after repeated efforts, he was not granted bail. Twice, his bail pleas were rejected by the Andhra Court.
Following this, Vaneeshwari, along with her son, contacted SimpliCity and explained their plight. She also met various authorities and requested for their help, to release her husband.
The media coverage of the issue reached writer Paamaran, who along with Actor Sathyaraj, took efforts to save Ravichandran.
Sathyaraj, contacted R.K.Selvamani, husband of actress Roja, who wields power in Andhra politics. R.K.Selvamani, volunteered and contacted the affected family.
Following this, R.K. Selvamani, along with the assistance of Roja, undertook a lot of efforts and finally obtained a bail for Ravichandran.
Speaking about his, Vaneeshwari said, "The Andhra police took my husband and subjected him to torture. Getting a bail was also very difficult. The court also refused to grant a bail to my husband. It was then that Actor Sathyaraj helped us by contacting Director R.K. Selvamani, and requested for his help. With the help and effort of Roja's assistant and R.K. Selvamani, my husband was finally granted bail. Now my husband is on his way back to TN. This makes me very happy."
In an overwhelmed state, she thanked all the people who helped her and requested the Andhra government to give her husband's life back.
