The Nilgiris: In a press briefing on COVID-19 precautionary measures taken in the Nilgiris, the District Collector met the press for the second consecutive day.
"All precautionary measures as advised by the State and Central governments are duly noted and being executed. All tourist destinations have been closed in the Nilgiris till March 31", the District Collector informed.
District Collector J Innocent Divya stressed that the need of the hour is sensible reporting. Hence, the Collector requested the media to abstain from sensitising news, instead wait patiently until there is an official statement from the district administration.
As people are already stuck in panic, wrong or partially true news will only add up to their panic, she told.
"The media should wait for official statements and circulars from the concerned authorities instead of hurrying up with incorrect information", the Collector said.
"While precautionary measures have been geared up, people should cooperate to contain this pandemic instead of falling prey to baseless social media forwards", she requested.
When questioned on a person who is isolated with COVID-19 symptoms, the Collector clarified that the person has been quarantined as he was from Kozhikode.
"He reported symptoms of fever and cough, hence as a precautionary measure he has been isolated and monitored. Any updates on his health condition will be officially informed", she clarified.
