On Wednesday morning, the Palladam poultry farm owners decided to distribute 200 kgs of 'chilli chicken' to the public, in an effort to rubbish the rumours about Coronavirus being spread through the consumption of chicken.
With more than 1800 poultry farms contributing 45 lakh kilos of broiler chicken every month, income through poultry farming is the main livelihood for lakhs of people in Palladam in Tirupur district, who are directly or indirectly involved in poultry farming.
In this scenario, the havoc wrought by the Coronavirus has drastically affected the demand and price of broiler chickens which is sold at a quarter of the price. The Union Health Ministry and the State Animal Husbandry department even released circulars to the masses to educate them on the myths of chicken consumption and COVID 19.
As people are yet reluctant to consume chicken, the poultry farms have out out with a public awareness campaign by distributing 200 kgs of chilli chicken to the public, to annihilate the fear.
Through loud speakers, announcements were made that COVID-19 and chicken consumption have no connection and hence eating chicken is completely safe.
