Thailand tourist who 'tested negative' for COVID-19, passes away in Coimbatore GH

Coimbatore: A tourist from Thailand, who was suspected of having COVID-19 and tested negative has passed away today, at the Coimbatore Government Hospital.


Coimbatore: A tourist from Thailand, who was suspected of having COVID-19 and tested negative has passed away today, at the Coimbatore Government Hospital.

Though the results turned 'negative', the patient was reportedly suffering from diabetes and kidney-related ailments, said the officials. But this information about his already bad health of diabetes and kidney problems was not released to the people or media yesterday by the officials. 

The Thailand Embassy has been notified about his death. 

According to the tourists, a team of seven tourists from Thailand arrived at Chennai, to visit various mosques in the State. While they were touring in Erode, one of the members of the tour party, a 40-year-old man, took ill. As he showed symptoms of flu, he decided to break the tour and leave to Thailand. 

He arrived to Coimbatore on Saturday to board Chennai flight. During the screening process he was screened 

at the airport and was suspected of a Coronavirus infection. He was immediately sent to the isolation ward at Coimbatore GH. His blood and sputum samples were sent for testing for Chennai. 

Though his results supposedly turned negative, he passed away due to his existing ailments, the health officials told.
