Coimbatore: In a novel protest, district members of Tamil Nadu Farmer's Welfare Association bearing agricultural raw materials, petitioned to the District Collector to exempt agricultural raw materials and farming equipments from GST.
Highlighting the real-time challenges faced by the farmers of Coimbatore region, the District members of the association slammed that "With growing uncertainties, farming is becoming increasingly riskier and farmers are struggling to make a livelihood by selling their produce. In this scenario, no words can explain the plight of the farmers, after the central government's increased the GST on agricultural products from 5% to 18%."
They distressed farmers stated that they are left with no option but to quit agriculture.
The farmers appealed to the Collector to escalate their petition to the concerned Central government authorities.
