Coimbatore:The Police have arrested Mohammed Hanifa (41) for his involvement in the assault of a RSS functionary at Sundarapuram.
On March 11, Suryaprakash, a RSS functionary was assaulted by unidentified men wearing helmets who barged into his oil store on Madukkarai Market road and attacked him using rods. A complaint was filed at D3 Podanur police station under section 245/2020 S/P 447,448,294(b), 307, 506(2).
As the incident caused a stir among the Hindu outfits, the City Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order) ordered to expedite the probe and nab the accused.
Following which, a special team was formed under Podanur Police station Inspector P. Maheswaran. The team retrieved the CCTV footages from all possible locations and located the registration number of the vehicle which was used by those involved in the assault.
On March 14 at 9 PM, the Police nabbed Mohammed Hanifa (41) from Variety hall road who confessed the crime to be a planned and coordinated attack. Later, he was booked under section 120(b), 447, 448, 294(b), 307, 506(2).
The police also seized his two-wheeler and produced the accused before the Magistrate on March 15 and remanded him.
