Coimbatore: Ramanathapuram DMK member Murugan was arrested by Ramanathapuram police after a complaint was lodged against him for slandering Minister SP Velumani in a WhatsApp group.
Coimbatore: Ramanathapuram DMK member Murugan was arrested by Ramanathapuram police after a complaint was lodged against him for slandering Minister SP Velumani in a WhatsApp group.

Murugan (50) hails from Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore. He is a member of the DMK District General Committee. He was arrested this morning on a complaint lodged by the AIADMK's Gautham, alleging that he had defamed Minister SP Velumani in WhatsApp group.

This was followed by an investigation at the police station. Knowing this, the DMK blockaded the Ramanathapuram police station. Subsequently, the police registered a case against the DMK member under three sections, including the Indian Penal Code 504, 505B, 66E and the Information Technology Act and imprisoned him for producing at the court.

Following this, police are also investigating with the WhatsApp group's admins.
