Coimbatore: SMS College, a private college, functioning in Perur, Coimbatore, has been alleged by the students of the college, for allegedly collecting excessive fees. They filed their petition with the District Collector and requested him to take action against the college.
Speaking to the press regarding the issue, the students alleged, "The college has always collected more fees than the prescribed fees. During the final year exams, students who paid the fees late were asked to pay more, which is against the guidelines of the University."
"When questioned regarding this, the management did not give us a proper response. When we insisted that the final year students would be affected due to this, the 17 students, involved in the issue, were suspended temporarily from college", they noted.
"The concerned department Professor did not sign the directive, it was signed by a professor of another department", they blamed. They further alleged that," The Associate Director of College Education, did not act on the complaint we submitted." Due to this the students had to complain to the Perur Tahsildar, who assured them of resolving this issue. However when the students went back to college today, the management did not allow them inside the campus.
Permitting only a few students to write the exams, the management made the other students wait outside. The students who paid the fees late, also agreed to pay the fees that was due, within the guidelines of the University. The affected students grieved that it was unfortunate that the management was only keen to collect excess fees from the students. They hoped that the District Collector would be able to take action upon their complaint and resolve the issue.
