Coimbatore: Among other demands, Pollachi MP Shanmuga Sundaram had submitted a petition to introduce an overnight train service to Bengaluru from Coimbatore and to restore the Coimbatore-Rameswaram, Coimbatore-Kollam express trains which have been pending for more than 3 years.
Recalling the long pending plea of the people of introducing an additional night train service between Coimbatore - Bangalore train which was again proposed by Railway Ministry in 2007, the MP stressed that the train would immensely help those from the city working in IT sector, school and college students and common public.
"Despite the gauge conversion work between Podanur - Dindigul has been fully completed, the Coimbatore - Rameswaram train is yet to be restored", he noted in his petition.
He also requested for a new train service between Coimbatore to Madurai Intercity as it will be helpful for the business community and unorganized/organized employees/pilgrims from Coimbatore and the Nilgiris. He further requested for train service between Coimbatore to Nagercoil-via Podanur, Kinathukadavu, Pollachi and Madurai, new direct train service from Tirupur to Chennai.
He pointed out that conventional racks used in the Chennai-Coimbatore (12680/12679) Intercity express were replaced with the latest LHB raks. Such replacements must be done for the newky requested Coimbatore - Madurai train service and operated.
MP Shanmuga Sundaram also insisted on platform expansion works of Irugur station in Coimbatore.
Keeping in mind the convenience of people of North Coimbatore, RS Puram, Saibaba Colony, Gandhipuram and Kavundampalayam area, the MP requested stopping of night train like Train no 12083 Mayiladuthurai - Coimbatore, Train No: 22669 (Nagercoil-Coimbatore), Train No: 12675 (Chennai-Coimbatore), and Train No: 11013 (Mumbai CST — Coimbatore) at the North Coimbatore Junction.
Stressing that Coimbatore which has been identified for Smart City Project should be equipped with best of transport and road facilities, the MP urged that the works should be expedited.
