The State General Council meeting of the Tamilnadu Press Employees Union was held today, at Hotel Annamalai, in Coimbatore. District President C. Jayachandran, presided the meeting. District administrators Ooty Thangaraj, Tirupur Sivakumar, Vaalavaadi Vannanilavan, Murganandam, Ooty Anandan and G.Jebaraja headed the meeting.

The special address was made by the District General Secretary Pon. Vallarasu who also read out the resolutions.
The following resolution were passed during the meeting:
1. Thanking the efforts of Minister S.P. Velumani, and the CM Edappadi Palanisamy who provided land for homes, at concessional rates, for Coimbatore District press employees, a long pending request of the association.
2. Requesting the TN government to take action, to provide land for homes, at concessional rates, to the other deserving journalists of Coimbatore, who were not included in the current list.
3. Requesting the TN government to provide land for homes, at concessional rates, for other deserving journalists, in all other districts, all over TN.
4. Thanking the TN government for considering the formation of a Journalists Welfare Board and requesting representation in the board, for registered District societies, all over TN.
5. Requesting representation for journalists and state executives of Journalists Association from all over TN in the committee that provides Accreditation Card to the journalists, unlike the olden times when only people from Chennai held the representation.
6. Requesting Accreditation Card for all the journalists who held the card in the previous year. More than half the journalists have not received their cards in 2020.
7. Requesting action against the increasing number of people who defame the press and involve in violence against the members of the press, which is the 4th pillar of Democracy. Such acts oppress democracy and the government should handle such anti social people with a firm hand. Formation of a Journalists Protection Act is also requested.
8. Condemning R.S. Bharathi, for his derogatory and objectionable speech against the press and requesting action against him by the TN government. A resolution was also passed, and the General Council gave the Tamilnadu Press Employees Union, permission to take legal action against R.S. Bharathi.
9. Requesting the TN government to provide reservation for the children of press employees, in Higher studies and concession for educational expenses.
Many such resolutions were passed and the new State Executives were congratulated in the meeting. The vote of thanks was delivered by Secretary A. Murugesan.
