Awareness mobile van flagged off for the 'Nutrition Biweekly event-2020', of the Integrated Child Development Services

Coimbatore: An awareness mobile, for the 'Nutrition Biweekly Event-2020', on behalf of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), was flagged off by the District Collector K. Rajamani. The event that took place today (Mar 12), was held at the District Collectorate. ICDS Project Officer Meenakashi and other Anganwadi workers took part in the event.


Coimbatore: The awareness mobile van will tour through many places in the Coimbatore District, including Anaimalai, Annur, Periyanaickenpalayam, Perur, Selvapuram, Singanallur, Saibabacolony, Ganapathi, Madukkarai, Thondamuthur, Pollachi, Sulur, Sultanpet and Sarkarasaamakulam. The campaign will be held until March 22, informed the District Collector.

Speaking at the event, the District Collector said, "Many projects are being undertaken under the ICDS for the nutrition safety of children, pregnant women and adolescent girls. The objective is to make India a nation without nutrition deficiency by 2022, under the 'POSHAN Abhiyaan' scheme."

"As a part of this scheme, a biweekly event called 'POSHAN Pakhwada' (Mar 8 - Mar 22), will be held. The theme for this event is 'Men for nutrition - Increasing male participation in Nutrition programme to increase nutrition indicators'. The objective is to create awareness not just among women and children but also to men, who are also a part of the decision making in the family."

He further said, "The campaign aims promote the following: to ensure feeding breastmilk to new borns, providing vaccinations, starting supplements at the age of 6 months, self cleanliness, preventing anemia, checking the height and weight every month, ensuring the nutrition levels of pregnant and feeding mothers and the participation of men in raising children."

The awareness mobile was flagged off today, in a bid to spread awareness regarding nutrition, among all the people. The vehicle will travel too many places in the Coimbatore District, including Anaimalai, Annur, Periyanaickenpalayam, Perur, Selvapuram, Singanallur, Saibabacolony, Ganapathi, Madukkarai, Thondamuthur, Pollachi, Sulur, Sultanpet and Sarkarasaamakulam. The campaign will be held until March 22, informed the District Collector.
