Coimbatore: The Kerala government has closed down the Valparai- Chalakkudi Road and has banned tourism at the Athirampalli falls and the Valaichaal river, to control the spread of coronavirus.

As a reflection of the ongoing pandemic, the Kerala government has placed restrictions on tourism in the state. Thousands of tourists from Kerala and TN visit the Chalakkudi falls and the nearby tourist spots. Many tourists also travel to Valparai, daily. Due to the pandemic spread of coronavirus, the Kerala Forest department has closed down the Valparai-Chalakkudi Road and placed severe restrictions for vehicles at the Mazhukkappaarai checkpost, in the TN-Kerala border. Only local vehicles are being permitted to travel through the road.
As a result of this, not only tourism, but also trade has been affected in Mazhukkappaarai, Sholaiyar Dam and Valparai. Cottages and hotels, appear isolated and deserted in this area.
