Coimbatore: People of Valparai woke up to the sounds of a mountain deer, trying to escape from a pack of dholes. The mountain deer that ran through the tea estate jumped into the Nadumalai river, in order to save itself. However the dholes hunted it down and feasted on it.

The residential area where the incident occurred is located near the New bus stand. This area is usually buzzing with buses that ply frequently from 4 AM to 10 PM, from this bus stand. Many passengers from Tirupur and Coimbatore arrive at this place even at 1AM or 2AM at night. The presence of people is very common in the area and thus it was rather strange for animals to be hunting in such a crowded area.

On receiving information regarding this, the Forest Department workers arrived in the morning and took a look at the carcass of the mountain deer. They also advised the people to stay safe since the dholes had camped nearby.
People of the area requested the Forest Department workers to remove the carcass immediately as it was beginning to emit foul smell and for the fear of it contaminating the water in the river.
