Coimbatore: The recent incidents of violence between Muslim and Hindu parties has instilled fear among the people of Coimbatore. The District Collector and the Commissioner of Police have issued stern warning to both the parties to refrain from indulging in any activities that could trigger an uproar and question the harmony of the city.

In this scenario, the Muslims who have been displaying their dissent against the Citizenship Amendment Act by holding day-long protest at Athupaalam here for over 20 days have announced temporary withdrawal of their protests.

The announcement comes after Surya Prakash, a RSS functionary was attacked by two unidentified men at his shop in Sundarapuram on Wednesday night. Tense situation prevailed after hundreds of RSS and other fringe Hindu groups gathered at KG hospital, where he was treated.
Security was deployed at all places in the city to avoid further violence.
It may be recalled that DGP DK Tripati on Wednesday held an emergency review meeting with all senior police officials in the city regarding the law and order situation of the city.
