Coimbatore: People belonging to both Hindu and Islam outfits should work towards the harmony of the city, inciting communal clashes by involving in unlawful activities will be taken to task, warned District Collector K Rajamani, on Wednesday.

Following a meeting with both Islamic and Hindu outfits to refrain from involving in communal clashes and triggering panic in the city, the District Collector in a press release has appealed to the people to work towards peace and harmony of the city.
Citing the recent assaults on cadres belonging to Hindu and Muslim outfits, Collector has informed that it is very crucial to work towards establishing peace in the city to ensure the safety of the people. The City Police department have geared up security measures and are acting round the clock to ensure safety of the people and nab those who instigate communal hate.
People should use social media responsibly and avoid debating and posting issues that could lead to communal clash and hate. Also, those who spread unwarranted information and trigger panic among people will not be spared, the Collector told.
He also urged the media to approach every news with caution and ensure authenticity of the news before publishing.
The Collector assured that petitions from both anti CAA and pro CAA will be passed on to the State government, for appropriate action. Further, he hoped that the anti CAA protests will see an amicable settlement.
"The police are working in an organised manner to restore the peace of the city. Special teams have been formed to identify the criminals who are inciting violence. No leniency will be showed to anybody who tries to disturb the general peace of the city. Peace is the primary objective, hence no party shall be tolerated if found to cause communal clash", he notified.
