Coimbatore: The ongoing communal violence in the city has triggered unrest and disrupted the harmony of the city. The series of assaults on members and property of both Islamic outfits and Hindu outfits has become a cause of concern for the police department who have beefed up security in the city.

In view of the same, an emergency meeting was convened at the City Police Commissioner Office on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Director General of Police, DK Tripati and Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order Dr K. Jayanth Murali.
During the meeting, the DGP discussed on the security measures taken by the City Police to ensure the safety of the people and put an end to the ongoing assaults and attacks on Hindu and Muslim outfit members which could possibly trigger large scale communal clash in the city.
According to reports, Vetriselvan, Assistant Commissioner, Special Intelligence Cell (SIC) has been put on waiting list and Assistant Commissioner of Crime branch, Chandrasekar has been appointed as the new AC of SIC.
The meeting was attended by K Periaiah, IG (west zone), Sumit Sharan, Commisioner of Police, Coimbatore City and all DCs and ACs.
