Coimbatore: The tense situation following a series of incidents, such as the attack on the Hindu Munnani in Coimbatore, the petrol bombing in the mosque, the attack on the autos run by Muslims, the petrol bomb on the Hindu Munnani office and the attack on the SDPI executives has been a cause for concern for the administration and people.
Amidst this chaos, District Collector Rajamani held peace talks with all Jamaat and Islamic parties at the Coimbatore District Collector's office yesterday night. Coimbatore Police Commissioner Sumit Saran, Deputy Commissioner Balaji Saravanan, and officials participated in the peace talks. The peace talks lasted for more than two hours.
In an interview to reporters after the talks, All Jamaat and Islamic Federation Coordinator Raja Hussain said that the Hindu Munnani has continued to attack the Muslims and he said they had informed the District Collector about the attacks on the mosques. He also said that he had informed the District Collector about the series of attacks of the Muslims in the past week and said the Collector had promised to take required action.
Also SDPI member Shahjahan said he had brought to the notice of the Collector about the slogan "Jai Shri Ram" shouted by the people who attacked Iqbal. He also said that he had requested protection for mosques in the outskirts of the city. Raja Hussain, Coordinator of All Jamaat and Islamic Organizations, said the "Shaheen Bagh" agitation in Athupalam was a struggle for their citizenship and would continue until the resolution was passed in the Assembly.
The Islamic organisations are of the opinion that the administration is only advising them to be restraint and not asking the Hindutva organizations to stop the violence against Muslims. It is to be noted that a peace talk with the Hindu organizations will be held at the District Collector's office today morning.
