Coronavirus: 3-yr-old from Kerala becomes first child in India to test positive

Kerala: After five cases from the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala were reported on Sunday to have infected with Coronavirus, a 3-year-old boy from the State has been tested positive. With this India has now a total of 43 cases of the novel virus.

This is also the first case in the country where a child has been infected. The boy had rrportedly returned from Italy with its parents at the Cochin International airport on an EK 503 flight on March 7 morning, officials said. On March 9, his tests results showed postive for Coronavirus.

The first Coronavirus case in India was reported on January 30 in Kerala after a medical student from Thrissur studying in Wuhan, China, was tested positive and soon two of her classmates also tested positive. All three of them have now recovered.

At present, there are at least 16 Italian nationals in India, who have tested positive for the disease. Several other cases in the country have been reported from Agra, New Delhi, Chennai, Ghaziabad, Kerala and Gurugram.

According to the Health Ministry, as many as 52 laboratories are operational across the country for testing, and an additional 57 laboratories have been provided with the relevant manual and swabs for sample collection.
