Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has announced that the Centre would be making it mandatory for sanitary napkin companies to provide bio-degradable disposal bags
While speaking at an International Women's Day event in Pune, the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change said that even when there was an already existing rule to provide bio-degradable disposal bags along with the sanitary napkins for hygienic and safe disposal of the used napkins, the napkin manufacturers have failed to do so.
He further said that apart from harming the environment the improperly disposed sanitary napkins are harmful to the waste collectors, whom he addressed as Swachhta Sevaks. To avoid this he said that the Union Ministry will make the production of bio-degradable bags for safe disposal of napkins mandatory from January 1, 2021.
