Tirupur: Two different marathons to create awareness on safety of women and hair donation for cancer patients marked the International Women's day celebration at Tirupur in Sunday.
District Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan flagged off the marathon that started from Chikkanna Government College of Arts upto Vanjipalayam. Similarly, a cancer awareness marathon was held from the Tirupur District Collectorate to Veerapandi.
Thousands of participants including women and children took part in the marathon emphasising on women safety which they said is the need of the hour. Winners of the first three places were awarded with prizes and certificates.
Post the event, many women donated their hair for making natural wigs, for cancer patients. Women who donated their hair were also honoured with certificates.
