The Nilgiris: A wage labourer has been seriously injured and admitted in hospital after being attacked by a wild elephant near Gudalur in the Nilgiris district on Saturday.

Manickam (50) from the Ezhumaram Paniyar Colony near Gudalur was on his way to work to Silver Cloud Estate at 7.30 AM, this morning. Unexpectedly, he encountered a wild elephant at close quarters which pushed him down and trampled on his abdomen. 

Hearing his cry, the passersby rushed a critically-injured Manickam to Gudalur Government Hospital for treatment. Later, he was shifted to Calicut Hospital for advanced treatment.
