Shop closure protest by Hindu and Muslim religious outfits in Coimbatore: Thousands of police deployed

Coimbatore: Police protection has been strengthened throughout the district led by 2 ADGPs to ensure that there are no incidents in today's shop closure protest by the Hindu Munnani and all Islamic groups in Coimbatore. Anand, the Hindu Munnani functionary, was brutally attacked three days ago by unidentified persons near Nanjundapuram. As a result, a shop closure protest is underway in Coimbatore district today demanding immediate arrest of Anand's attackers on behalf of the Hindu Munnani.

Similarly, the Jamaat and Islamic organisations are also doing a shop closure protest condemning the petrol bombing at the mosques in Ganapathy and condemning the attack on the auto driver Mohammed Kani by the Hindu Munnani. With the announcement of the protest of the two religious outfits in Ukkadam Fish Market, Karumbukadai, Athupalam, Town Hall, Kuniyamuthur, Singanallur, Gandhipuram, Rathinapuri and Puliyakulam have been closed down in many areas.



At the same time, the buses are running as usual though the public movement is a little less after the announcement of the protest. Thousands of police have been deployed in the city to prevent any untoward incidents. Armed RPF police are on rounds in sensitive areas, places of worship and in crowded public places.



Under the head of Commissioner Sumit Saran and under the supervision of ADGP Jaihind Murali and Sankar Jiwal intensive security measures have been undertaken.
