The mountainous region of Nilgiris, consists of 55 percent forests and is home to deers, tigers, cheetahs, bisons, elephants and many other animals. Sometimes, animals in these forests wander, enter the tea estates and other residential areas in search of food and water. Miscreants try to trap these animals and cook them. If caught, they can face imprisonment for a period of three years to ten years,
In this scenario, four daily wage labourers in the Solaiyur area, near Ooty, hunted a Sambar deer, cooked and consumed it. Krishnamoorthy, Pasuraj, Venkatraj and Yesudas, trained their pet dogs to hunt, and with their help they hunter the Sambar deer.
The Forest Department officials received a tip off regarding this. A case was filed on the four men, by a team of forest department officials, led by the Forest Officer Pandiaraj, who arrested the four men. Upon payment of a fine of One lakh rupees, the men were released.
