Coimbatore:In a first, a team of doctors at Valparai Government Hospital have performed cesarean surgery for two pregnant women. Both the newborn and the mothers are doing fine, said the doctors.

The team of doctors led by the Chief doctor of Valparai government hospital Dr. Vinoth M.S, including Dr. Mahesh Anandhi DGO, Dr. Manjula M.S, Dr. Muhammed Sadiq MD, Dr. Surendran MD and a team of nurses, achieved this remarkable feat.
They were guided by Dr. Krishna JDHS kovai, Dr. Magayarkarasi and Dr.Jothikala of the Coimbatore Government Hospital and College.
With a population over a lakh, the Valparai government hospital lacks advanced treatment facilities. Hence, people there either had to visit Pollachi or Coimbatore GH for treatment.
Especially, those victims of elephant, leopard, bear and snake attacks had to travel 64 kms in an ambulance to get treated in Coimbatore GH.
"The plight of the pregnant women is even worse. Even for any minor complications, the women has to be shifted to Pollachi or Coimbatore within a critical time. In the past, several lives were lost during travel", opine locals from Valparai.
Meanwhile, the news of two cesarean surgeries performed successfully in Valparai GH has brought cheers and hope among the residents of the hilly terrain.
