According to reports, Kittusamy, a daily labourer from Vellarukkampalayam near Thondamuthur was on his way back home in his two-wheeler from Narasipuram, on Wednesday night.
As he was in an inebriated state, Kittusamy failed to notice a lone tusker that was hiding behind the bushes. The tusker attacked him and killed him on the spot.
On Thursday morning, the passersby saw Kittusamy's vehicle in a trampled state and also found his body lying nearby the bushes. Upon information, the Boluvampatti Forest Department officials and the Alandurai Police Department. Police arrived to the spot and retrieved the body of Kittusamy and sent it for post mortem, to Coimbatore GH.
The Forest Department officials who conducted investigation in the area, confirmed that he had died due to an elephant attack.
An immediate solatium of Rs.50,000 was handed over to his family. The State government has announced Rs 4 lakh solatium to the family of the victims affected due to human-animal conflicts.
"As forests are drying up, incidents of elephants crossing over to farmlands for food and water will be more, hence people should be cautious while travelling or walking along reserve areas after evening", the foresters advised.
