Coimbatore: Two women were killed on the spot after the Jeep they were travelling toppled near Palamalai, here on Wednesday evening.
Coimbatore: Two women were killed on the spot after the Jeep they were travelling toppled near Palamalai, here on Wednesday evening.

According to police reports, at 5:30 PM when the Jeep reached near the third hairpin bend in Palamalai, the vehicle toppled into a pit due to brake dysfunction. Out of the seven passengers, two women died on the spot and remaining five sustained grievous injuries.

The deceased were identified as Sivanammal (65) and Pappammal (50) from Kottathurai. And, the injured, Iyyappan (29), Murugan (34), Mariammal (80), Madhavan (55) and Maruthan (55) were admitted in Coimbatore Government Hospital.
Following an inquiry conducted by the Periyanaickenpalayam police, the victims belong to a hamlet named Vannathurai, Agali near Palakkad district.
The accident occurred when they were returning home after attending a baby shower at a relative's home in Ranganathapuram in the foothills of Palamalai.
