The program affiliated to American Association of Family Physicians (AAFP) will be held at PSGIMSR between March 6-8. PSG Hospitals is one of the two institutions licensed to conduct this course, in India.

ALSO is aimed at addressing five leading causes of maternal mortality -- haemorrhage, infections, unsafe abortion, eclampsia and obstructed labour. This course is recommended for physicians, resident doctors, midwives, registered nurses and any others involved in maternal health care.

Apart from ALSO, AAFP conducts Basic Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSO) which aims at providing basic training for first time responders, residents, emergency medicine technicians and others who have the responsibility of maternal health care. Faculty from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, along with the Centre for Clinical Simulation Research has been conducting ALSO and BLSO courses at the provider and instructor levels for the past three years.

Effective management of postpartum haemorrhage, severe pre-eclampsia, shoulder dystosia and other obstetric emergencies are a few of the topics included in this course.
