Every year the festival draws huge crowd as the event is considered to be a one of the important festivities in the Kongu region.
The statue of Goddess Koniamman was decorated in a majestically-decorated chariot decked with flowers and glittering lights. Thousands of people involved in pulling the scared rope of the chariot which passed through town hall, five corner, raja street and culminated in Thermutti where the Chariot was stationed.
As a customary offering, the devotees threw salt on the chariot and chanted prayers hailing Goddess Konaimman. Thousands of devotees lined up on both sides of the road to catch a glimpse of the Goddess in the extravagant chariot.
The auspicious Thiruvilakku ceremony was inaugurated by Aadheena Maruthasala Adikalar followed by the car festival, today.
Hundreds of policemen were deployed in the area, to ensure security for the devotees and smooth conduct of the festival. Meanwhile, Kannammal, a resident of Kavundampalayam area, had reported that her 3 sovereign gold jewelery was stolen from the crowd during the car festival.
MLA Amman Arjunan, Kamakshipura Adheenam Sivalingeswara Swamigal, Siravai Adheenam Kumarakurupara Adigalar and Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath were also present.
