Coimbatore: An estate worker of Nallamudi estate in Valparai on Tuesday experienced harrowing moments as a wild elephant, began to chase him. In a miraculous escape, the estate worker escaped with grievous injuries.

Angamuthu, a 55-year-old plantation worker at Nallamudi estate in Valparai was on his way to work, this morning. Unexpectedly he encountered a wild elephant at close quarters and ran from the spot. While the elephant continued to chase him, he jumped into a pit to escape from the animal.
Meanwhile, the neighbors who heard Angamuthu scream, gathered together and chased the wild elephant and rescued him. He is presently undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital in Valparai.
The incident has triggered panic among the co-workers who fear more such elephant intrusions, as drought has hit Valparai.
