In Tirupur more than 3000 workers engaged in distributing packaged drinking water and over 500 packaged drinking water plants have joined the bandwagon of protests against the HC's order and demanding the State government to issue no-objection certificate to operate and relax norms for drawing groundwater, based on the zones.
Citing practical difficulties in implementing the order, the packaged drinking water firms and suppliers have been carrying out strike for the second day on Sunday.
Shockingly, only 600 Packaged Drinking Water units in the State had been provided with NOC by Water Resources Department for operation and the remaining 1012 units do not have NOC, but have been operating under the license issued by the Bureau of India Standards and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
