BJP is defaming CAA protests; hate speeches led to Delhi riots - D Raja, CPI National Secretary in Coimbatore

"The hate speeches and controversial statements made by the BJP Ministers on revoking CAA is a proof for their arrogance. The incidents happening in Delhi, reminds us of the 2002 riots. The riots has set the alarm bells ringing", warned D. Raja.

Coimbatore: The National Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI), D. Raja in a press meet today in Coimbatore alleged that BJP and RSS are trying to defame the protests opposing Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

"The hate speeches and controversial statements made by the BJP Ministers on revoking CAA is a proof for their arrogance. The incidents happening in Delhi, reminds us of the 2002 riots. The riots has set the alarm bells ringing",  warned D. Raja.

"We need to maintain the secularism of the country. After the announcement of CAA, there has been a lot of spontaneous protests by the people, across the country. The government should never have taken religion as a basis for granting citizenship", accused the National Secretary of CPI.

He alleged that as proposed by BJP, the Citizenship Act cannot be seen individually, it should be viewed along with National Registry of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) which combined together, will not only affect Muslims but also common people.

By defaming the CAA protestors, the BJP and RSS are trying to instill fear and chaos in the nation, he alleged.

Questioning, how guns entered the protest site, he claimed that more than half of the victims of the North-east Delhi riots have died of bullet wounds. "Prior to the riots, the BJP Ministers have indulged in hate speech, spoke of shooting the protestors and even suggested of raping them. Both BJP and RSS, are the reasons behind the violence unleashed on the protestors", he accused.

Slamming the Delhi Police, the CPI leader questioned why the Delhi Police were not able to take control.of the situation. "The ineptness of Delhi Police makes one thing, if they have been supportive of the mobsters instead of safeguarding the public. The Delhi riots are a clear proof of failure of Home Ministry. As usual, Amit Shah is conveniently pointing fingers at the opposition parties which is a blatant lie", he slammed.

Taking into consideration, the nation-wide outrage due to CAA, the President must interfere in this issue to restore harmony of the nation. He proposed that the President must hold talks with the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and bring the situation under complete control.

Commenting on the nod given by the Delhi government to probe allegations of sedition against former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, the National Secretary of CPI condemned the act and said it was politically motivated. He informed that CPI will take up the issue, legally.

When questioned on the US President's recent visit to India, he opined that the  arrival of American President Trump has been beneficial to the American economy, however the independent foreign policy of India has been compromised. The government is voluntarily becoming too dependent on the United States, he said.
