Coimbatore: The monthly farmers' grievance redressal meet was held at the District Collectorate here on Friday. The meeting was chaired by District Collector K Rajamani and other departmental heads. The Collector received the grievance petitions from the farmers and forwarded them to the concerned officials for redressal.
The District Collector directed the officials to initiate appropriate redressal on a timely manner. Addressing the farmers, the Collector said, "The TN government has annnounced and implemented many welfare schemes for uplifting the lives of the farmers and agriculture. Special awareness camps are organised to educate the farmers on the schemes and how they can avail it."
The Collector also noted that farmer credit card has been issued to all eligible farmers from the region under the PM Kisan Scheme. The registered farmers are receiving the said grants in their bank accounts through the Agriculture Department.
He informed that the grievances related to micro irrigation project will be addressed and petitions requesting to build checkdams will be scrutinised.
"Similarly, to compensate the trees felled during road expansion works, the highways department has been instructed to plant saplings along the national and state highways and nurture them", the Collector noted.
Replying to the petitions seeking veterinary hospitals in villages, the Collector assured that necessary action will be taken by the Animal Husbandry Department.
He also assured to the farmers of Idikarai Krishnapuram village of Sarkarsaamakulam circle that as requested by them steps will be taken to eatablish primary health centers in their blocks.
The authorities of the agricultural engineering department were directed to inspect the faulty oil grinding machines which were sourced from them.
Several petitions on infestations were submitted by the farmers from Pollachi, who complained of the Rugose Spiralling Whitefly, that affect coconut trees. The Collector ordered the agricultural officers belonging to pest control and insecticides department to personally visit the farmlands and demonstrate technique to combat the infestations.
The District Collector, further requested the farmers to make wise use of the various welfare schemes and benefit.
District Revenue Officer Ramaduraimurugan, Cooperative societies Sub Registrar Palanisamy, PA (Agriculture) to Collector Sivasubramaniam, Assistant Director of Agriculture Tom. P. Sailas and other Governement officials took part in the meeting.
