Coimbatore: The SDPI party has filed a petition at the Coimbatore Commissioner's Office demanding additional security for businesses and the public as a rally in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act is to be held by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

There are various protests across the country supporting and protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Islamic organizations and Jamaats have been engaged in a series of protests.
Similarly, in Coimbatore district, Islamists are engaged in a series of agitations in the Athupalam area in protest of the Citizenship Amendment Act.

In the meantime, BJP demanded action against Muslim organisations and DMK alliance stating that they have indulged in protests against CAA and submitted a petition at the District Collector office.
Based on these activities, the SDPI demanded security stating that public, businesses and Muslims are at risk during the rally by BJP citing the Delhi rally where violence broke out.
