Coimbatore: Over 200 Children at the Pediatric ward in Coimbatore Government Hospital here, no longer have to stare at lifeless walls, as volunteers of a NGO and students of a private college have kick-started the process of painting the walls with cartoon characters and wild life

The initiative by Chandran's Yuva Foundation and Sri Krishna Adithya College of Arts and Science, to add colors to the walls of the pediatric ward at the Coimbatore GH has brought smiles among the little ones who are undergoing treatment for various illnesses at the pediatric ward at the GH.

Art is always believed to create vibrancy and happiness. While several private hospitals have long back implemented such novel ideas to keep the children engaged and relaxed, the pediatric ward here at GH is all set for the new makeover.

"After completion of the project the walls of three floors of the paediatric wards will resemble more of a play school than a hospital", say the organisers.

With a target to paint over 5000 sq ft of walls, more than 50 zealous students of the college and the NGO were involved in the initiative which was kick started on Wednesday morning.

Parents and the children widely appreciated the idea of painting the walls of the pediatric ward, which they feel will help to distract the children from pain and fear.

Dean of Coimbatore GH, Ashokan, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Bhooma, volunteers and executive committee members of Krishna College and Yuva Foundation motivated the students to continue their commendable work.
