Vasuki, Vice President of the AIDWA led the protest in which the members smeared holy ash and paid floral tributes to the LPG cylinders. Slogans were raised condemning the Central government for hiking the prices of essential commodities and continous hike of price of LPG cylinders.
Addressing the Press, the President of AIDWA said that the price hike of LPG cylinders from Rs.736 to Rs. 950 will gravely affect the common man.
"How many households could afford to buy cylinders by paying close to Rs. 1000? In contrast to free gas connections to poor women, through the Ujjwala scheme, such hikes will be a huge burden on the masses", she alleged.
"When the government affords to waive off taxes and loans of large corporates and businessmen, why couldn't it continue to grant subsidies to the poor?", she questioned.
She also pointed the pending salaries of workers engaged under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). "There has been a notable increase in suicides due to unemployment. Than farmer suicides, unemployment suicides are on a rise", she noted.
She alleged that reduction of funding for vital sectors like education, health care and social welfare programs in the budget is shocking and will directly affect the welfare of the people.
Vasuki, President AIDWA also slammed GST and demonetisation and alkged that it has affected several businesses, especially MSMEs.
"The State government which should be questioning the schemes of the Central government is blindly obeying the orders", she alleged.
