Tirupur: In a shocking robbery were around 18 lakhs cash and 500 sovereign gold was been looted from State Bank of India, Kalipalayam branch in Palladam in Tirupur district, six special teams have been formed to nab the burglars.
Shocked by the robbery and enraged by the bank's carelessness to deploy adequate security, the bank customers staged a road roko on Palladam road.
Six special police teams have been formed under the direct supervision of Tirupur District SP Disha Mittal and Palladam DSP Muruga Velu to nab the robbers.
On February 24, when the staff opened the bank, they were shocked to find the lockers broken and jewellery and cash being looted. Immediately, they informed the Kamanaicken Police station along with forensic officials rushed to the spot and commenced investigation.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the burglars have broken into the bank through a back window and have broken the CCTV cameras before entering. They have also stolen the hard disks from the bank.
It may be recalled that a robbery attempt was made in the same bank, three months back. Following which, security was tightened and guards were provided with guns. Shockingly, a few days back, the security was withdrawn. Knowing this, the burglars have striked the bank again and eloped with 18 lakhs cash and 500 sovereign of gold.
After the police and the bank officials pacified the customers, they dispersed from the protest site.
