Coimbatore: Reitrating that in honor of late former CM Jayalalithaa's true passion of protecting and uplifting the lives of girl children, her birth anniversary which falls on February 24 will henceforth be observed as 'State girl Child Protection' day, Chief Minister Edapadi K Palanisamy said that protecting and improving the lives of women and girl children will be given utmost priority.
Addressing the Press here on Monday, at the City Airport, the CM clarified that as his presence was needed here on the birth anniversary of former CM Jayalalithaa he was unable to be present at the meeting following the arrival of US President Trump, today.
Reassuring that the as always, the State government will strive hard to ensure safety of women and implement projects to mitigate crime against women, the CM remarked that law and order situation in Tamil Nadu is very satisfactory.
Citing the data released by the National Crime archives, the CM informed that Coimbatore and Chennai have been recognized as the safest cities for women.
When questioned on the ongoing anti-CAA protests and outrage in the State, he alleged that DMK has been instigating people by spreading fake information about CAA, NPR and NRC. "The minorities in Tamil Nadu need not worry about CAA or NPR. They are like census taken every ten years."
"People should not forget that NPR became a law when DMK was a part of the Central Ministry. To gain votes in the upcoming State assembly elections, DMK has been propagating lies and fear among the minorities. Their actions are disrupting the harmony of the State", the CM accused.
"While it was announced that only language proof, address proof of parents and Aadhar card is required for NPR, the Central government has clarified that these proofs are not mandatory. Hence, fear mongering among the minorities should cease", requested the CM.
He clarified that permissions for protests are not been denied in the State. "Everyone has rights to protest. People are exercising their rights to show their disapproval against the CAA. Who is stopping them?", asked the CM.
When questioned on the allegations by DMK Chief Stalin on rising debts in AIADMK regime, the CM lambasted that his government is clearing the one lakh crore debt accumulated by the DMK government in the past.
The CM also strongly assured that the current government will rule for the next one year and three months, and continue to rule after the elections. "DMK can never come to power and Stalin can be a CM only in his dreams. They are perturbed by the people-friendly policies implemented by the AIADMK government", he said.
Condemning the speech of R.S. Bharathi against media, he said "It was derogatory and abusive. However, the media has maintained silence and not even protested about it. The appointment of Judges that R.S. Bharathi claims is downright arrogant. The media should’ve atleast published his entire speech."
Commenting on K.C. Palanisamy, the CM said that he was no longer with AIADMK, and that he was arrested for various crimes, in the past. Hence, there is no neccessary to take his comments seriously, he said.
"The release of the seven convicts including Perarivalan has been passed as a resolution in the assembly. Now, the decision lies in the hands of the Governor", he clarified.
"DMK who are now on a spree demanding the release of all the seven convicts should recall the past. When Karunanidhi was the CM, Stalin and Duraimurugan demanded the release of only Nalini, not all the seven convicts. Hence, they do not have any moral right to speak about the release of all the seven convicts, now", slammed the CM.
