Coimbatore: Various resolutions including revoking 24/7 Suez water distribution contract and protest against malpractices in Corporation administration by Minister SP Velumani were passed at the DMK Executive Committee Meeting held on Monday here.

MLA N Karthik who led the meeting of the District DMK (East Zone) alleged that Minister for Municipal Administration, SP Velumani and his brother SP Anbarasan have been involved in several allegations. "Notably, a majority of Corporation tenders and contracts have been granted to the accomplices and companies of the Minister and his brother", he alleged.

He accused that the resources are spent in a futile way and public welfare has been neglected.

The MLA noted that on March 11, a massive protest condemning the corruption by the Minister and his accomplices will be held in front of the Corporation office at Townhall.

The MLA strongly alleged administrative malpractices and corruption in the Corporation. He also accused the Corporation for granting water distribution project to Suez, a multinational company.

MLA Karthik pointed that there is no clarity in the contract drawn between the City Corporation and Suez. "Water being a basic necessity should be managed only by the Corporation and not a Corporate", he said.

Alleging that the recent projects proposed and implemented by the City Corporation has become a menace to the citizens, the MLA pin-pointed that the micro composting centres at every ward has earned severe criticism among the residents.

A resolution was passed at the meeting to hold a series of novel protests condemning the lethargic attitude of the Corporation in rectifying the roads that are filled with potholes.

The MLA also apprised on the upcoming activities in their party in view of party President M.K. Stalin's birthday to be celebrated on March 1.

Starting from March 1 to 31, various welfare activities and public meetings have been planned, he said.

DMK Asset Protection Committee, Vice President Pongalur Palanisamy, District Incharge Committee member Nachimuthu and other executive committee members took part in the meeting.
