Coimbatore: In an interactive session with Lt. General S.K.Upadhya, Master General Of Ordinance he discussed about the defence procurements and opportunities for MSMEs in Coimbatore at CODISSIA Industrial trade fair complex on Sunday.

"Before few years, we used to import defence equipment. We had to depend on other countries even for a small nut or bolt. And, that was not only draining our hard cash but also the time delay in obtaining equipment from other countries had cost us in many other ways. But over the last few years, the scenario has changed after we started manufacturing our equipment and even we indigenise accessories for previously imported equipment", he said.

"Presently, all defence products are manufactured in India. We are also exporting to other countries and now there is a huge opportunity to MSMEs in this region to start manufacturing products needed by the defence forces ," stated the Lt. General.

T.K. Varadharjan, Senior Quality Assurance Inspector and Directorate General of quality assurance informed that a facilitation centre has been set up in Coimbatore.

"DGQA's objective is to nurture and master the potential of MSMEs and to facilitate ease of doing business. DGQA has set up a facilitation centre in Coimbatore as part of defence corridor to understand the day to day issues faced by MSMEs of this region. Coimbatore and Tirupur with all their potential can use this facility and manufacture products for our defence forces", he said.
