The long-pending request of the farmers surrounding the Avinashi area was fulfilled last year on February 28, 2019 when CM Edapadi Palanisamy launched the project (Chief Minister inaugurates much awaited Avinashi-Athikadavu project) amidst much fan fare and jubilation of the farmers.
The long-pending request of the farmers surrounding the Avinashi area was fulfilled last year on February 28, 2019 when CM Edapadi Palanisamy launched the project (Chief Minister inaugurates much awaited Avinashi-Athikadavu project) amidst much fan fare and jubilation of the farmers.
In March 2019, L&T bagged the contract to execute (L&T bags contract for Athikadavu- Avinashi project) the project. But since then anxiety has prevailed among farmers and activists as there was not much work accomplished till now.
The State budget of 2020 also did not mention allocation for the Mettupalayam and Avinashi farming projects. But CM Edapadi Palanisamy put the anxiety to rest when he announced recently that the Avinashi-Athikadavu project will be completed by the year end in the TN State Assembly.

Subsequently, engineers and PWD officials have visited Hyderabad to inspect the HDPE pipes to be laid for the Avinashi-Athikadavu project. These developments have delighted the farmers who have been patiently waiting for this project to be implemented for decades.
