Coimbatore: The 26th Mahashivratri celebrations at Isha Yoga Centre at the Velliangiri foothills here witnessed a grand inaugural ceremony by Vice President, Venkaiah Naidu on Friday night.

The Vice President flagged off the celebrations in the presence of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Founder of Isha Yoga Centre.
Addressing lakhs of devotees who had gathered in front of the Adiyogi statue to witness the night-long celebrations, the Vice President lauded Sadhguru for his commitment in spreading Yoga and organising the traditional Mahashivratri event in a grandeur way.

"Festivals like MahaShivratri are an important medium to imbibe our age old cultural values among the youth", Vice President, Venkaiah Naidu "My dear brothers and Sisters, my best wishes to all of you who have come here from various parts of the globe. This night should become the best night for a better future for the entire humanity across the globe, that is our prayer to Lord Shiva.
It is a day to worship lord Shiva, to meditate and become one with our inner self. Shiva is also known as Mahadeva, the greatest god. Since ancient times, we may speak different languages, we may have different costumes, we may pray different gods, but all of us are one, culturally, irrespective of caste, creed, sex, religion, India is one! This feeling has to be there among all the people.
We also belong to a great culture, which believes the entire world is one family. The only culture the only civilization which speaks in this language is Indian Civilization. No other nation speaks like this, we want the wellbeing of everybody. We don't want to discriminate people. We want everyone to live in peace and harmony.
We have to preserve this great culture of this great civilization. We have to pass it to our future generations. Festivals like MahaShivratri are an important medium to imbibe our age old cultural values among the youth.
I congratulate and I pay my respect to Sadhguru Vasudev for organising this celebrations on such a grand scale. This is the effort of this great man, the great sage, modern sage, rishi, that this is happening in relevance of Lord Shiva and quality that he epitomises cannot be overemphasised in present day world and lifestyle.
World needs more than just happiness and that is exactly what Lord Shiva teaches us.
Adiyogi is the one who first transmitted the yogic science to humanity. Adiyogi is an inspiration and representation of Yoga which is not a belief but a technology to transform yourself. I see people here from different backgrounds, Sadhguru has made MSR a truly global festival.
Yoga is not of Religion, it is a science, it's time we must all now get back to Yoga. I am happy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken initiative to take yoga to the United Nations. Now Yoga is catching up!
Thanks to the initiative of the Prime Minister and the efforts of Sadhguru Vasudevji and many more. Yoga is not a political activity. All of us must practice and promote yoga for our betterment. Yoga is the center of scientific basis. UN has included yoga to attain a development of sustainable growth.
Between body mind and soul, yoga also teaches self control, which is lacking in some people in the country and also in the globe. Self control is the need of the hour, I appreciate the efforts of Yoga Promotion by sadhguru and other great sages of India.
I call upon the youths to come forward and fight against todays social evils and take the nation on the path of prosperity and take the globe on the path of prosperity. Nature and culture together for a better future, this is my advice to the people of this occasion.
Sadhguru has taken up an important movement, Rally For Rivers to save the rivers of this nation which aims at planting 2.42 billion trees across Cauvery basin to bring the entire cauvery basin under tree cover.
All of us should join this movement and strengthen this movement for our own future. Sadhguru is trying to bring cultural renaissance which is required across the globe. What is required is a saner voice not a louder.
