KSRTC bus accident kills 19: Driver booked under rash driving and causing death by negligence

Tirupur: The driver of the container truck who rammed on a Kerala Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus killing 19 people on the spot on Thursday morning has been booked under three sections -279 , 337 , 304 (A).

Hemaraj (37), the driver reportedly absconded from the accident scene. He was arrested this evening and has been remanded.

As many as 19 people including 5 women died and 25 others suffered grievous injuries after a container truck rammed a KSRTC bus near Avinashi in Tirupur district in the early hours of Thursday. 

According to reports, the bus was heading to Ernakulam from Bengaluru with 48 passengers onboard. The accident took ace at 3:30 am near Thirumuruganpoondi (Tirupur district) on the Avinashi-Salem bypass.

Section 279 in The Indian Penal Code 

Rash driving or riding on a public way.—Whoever drives any vehicle, or rides, on any public way in a manner so rash or negligent as to endanger human life, or to be likely to cause hurt or injury to any other person.

Section 337 of Indian penal code 

Whoever causes hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life, or the personal safety of others.

Section 304A in The Indian Penal Code 

Causing death by negligence.—Whoever causes the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide.
