Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Administration and the Coimbatore Jallikattu Association will host the Jallikattu competitions for third year, near Chettipalayam on Feb 23.
Jallikattu Association President SP Anbarasan, Secretary Thangavelu, Tamilnadu Rekla Association, President Arjunan and Police officials inspected the venue of the Jallikattu sport to review the arrangements for the event.
Apprising the Press regarding the event, Jallikattu Association President Anbarasan said, "The third year Jallikattu sport will be held on February 23, from 7AM to 5PM near Chettipalayam. The gallery that is being constructed for this event is the largest of its kind in TN focused on the safety of the audience."
"A 1000-acre land has been ear-marked as the venue site which can accommodate 1000 cars. So far, 4,150 bulls have been registered and 300 bulls from Coimbatore will make its debut in the event. From the next year, bulls from Coimbatore will be given priority. This year it is expected that around 750-900 bulls and 600 bull tamers will take part in the event", he informed.
Stating that the audience turnout last year was close to a lakh, he said that the organisers are expecting 3 lakh people to witness this year's event. A single gallery can house upto 8,000 people, he said.
Speaking about the amenities and medical facilities at the Jallikattu venue site, SP Anbarasan informed that the venue will be provided with all basic amenities including food, water, restrooms and parking facilities Transport facilities and other amenities will be taken care by the District Administration.
"Special medical camps and adequate ambulances will be stationed at the event site", he noted.
Reminiscing about the Jallikattu protests, he said, "The 3rd edition of Jallikattu is a tribute to the protestors who stood for the rights of Jallikattu."
"An exhibition of native breed cows and folk cultural programs will also be held as part of the event", he added.
Adding that an amazing list of prizes will be given out to the the winners, he said the all participants and the bulls will be awarded with prizes.
"The first prize winner will be honoured with a Maruti Alto car, motor bike for the second place and a Scooter for the third place winner. The best bull breeder would be presented with a native breed cow, as a special prize", he said.
As an additional safety measure, and the first-of-its kind initiative, the players and the audience at the event will be covered under insurance.
