Coimbatore: Around 19 passengers of a KSRTC bus enroute to Ernaculam were killed in an accident after a container lorry rammed on the bus near Avinashi on the early hours of Thursday.
Coimbatore: Around 19 passengers of a KSRTC bus enroute to Ernaculam were killed in an accident after a container lorry rammed on the bus near Avinashi on the early hours of Thursday.
The driver of the container vehicle bearing registration No. KL 07 CS 6325, who allegedly caused the accident, has been identified as Hemaraj (38), S/o Ayappan Kutty, Kollathumkundil, Chrumundassery, Ottapalam. The police are on the lookout for the driver who has reportedly absconded.
According to initial reports, the lorry entered the wrong lane and crashed into the KSRTC bus coming in the opposite direction killing 19 people on the spot and atleast 25 people severely injured. The accident took place near Avinashi, 40 kms away from Coimbatore.
Over 25 injured passengers are undergoing treatment at Tirupur government hospital and at private hospitals in Coimbatore.
